Northern Plains National Parks
Pastures, wetlands, jungles, rainforests, cloud forests, volcanoes and connected river arms... the Northern Lowlands have it all! They are located between the Pacific ocean and the Caribbean side and even reach up to the Nicaraguan border in the north.
The region's geographical context comprises two main plains: Llanuras de Los Guatusos to the West and Llanura de San Carlos to the East. Likewise, two mountain ranges enclose the region: the Tilaran Mountain Range (Cordillera de Tilaran) and the Central Volcanic Mountain Range (Cordillera Volcanica Central). In the north-west, the Guanacaste Mountain Range (Cordillera de Guanacaste) divides the Northern Lowlands from the Guanacaste Province.
