Tortuguero National Park is famous for its canals, waterways, and small lagoons that are fed by rivers that flow from the rainy Central Mountain Range and by the ever-present rains along the Caribbean Coast. This area is only accessible by boat or plane. Its long,
dark sandy shores and wildlife make Tortuguero an ideal place for sea turtles to lay their eggs. Tortuguero is the most important nesting site for Pacific Green turtles in the entire western half of the Caribbean. They nest here from July to October. Besides sea turtles, Tortuguero is one of the top places in the country to see a diverse array of wildlife.
