Named after Costa Rica’s third president, Dr. Braulio Carrillo, this national park is located only 20km (12mi) from San José. It is one of the cloudiest places in the country and its rugged terrain consists mainly of steep slopes covered with dense virgin rainforest and cloud forest.
The Poás Volcano National Park is located on the Continental Divide of Costa Rica in the Central Mountain Range. At a height of 2´708m (8´885ft), the Poás Volcano is one of Costa Rica's largest volcanoes and it has been quite active in recent years.
Located northwest of the Central Valley, the Juan Castro Blanco National Park protects mid-elevation rainforest and high altitude cloud forest on the slopes of three extinct volcanoes: Porvenir (2´267m / 7´438ft), Platanar (2´183m / 7´162ft), and El Viejo (2´122m / 6´962ft).
This park is located northeast of the city of Cartago.
