This national park along the Guanacaste coast was created to protect endangered giant Leatherback turtles, the largest sea turtle in the world.
Leatherback turtles can measure up to 2.5 meters (8 feet) in length and weigh around 700 kilograms (1,543 pounds). Female turtles come to these beaches to lay their eggs from November to April.
