Diriá National Park

Initially created as a wildlife refuge in 1991, this area in Guanacaste was declared a national park in 2004, primarily to protect, restore and manage the remaining forests as well as the watersheds in the area south of Santa Cruz.

In the lowlands, there are some remains of tropical dry forest. Wildlife is rather scarce due to human intervention.
