You’re up for a memorable E-bike excursion towards the region of Turrialba. Your first stopover is the summit of Costa Rica’s highest volcano: Irazú on 3'432m. After a look into its crater and surrounding moonscape, get onto modern E-Bikes for a scenic ride towards the neighbouring volcano Turrialba. As you pedal swiftly, you come across mystical paramo and cloud forest vegetation, such as huge umbrella leaves, colored mosses and bromelia-packed trees.
You’ll also pass by the so-called “Bosque Quemado”, a forest in ashes after an extensive active phase of the Turrialba volcano during 2014 – 2016. From the tiny village of La Central, where you’ll pause for refreshment, enjoy an adrenaline-downhill ride towards Aquiares, your final stage of today’s itinerary.
Nestled in the coffee plantations of the region, the village was founded in 1890 and developed together with the farm towards a symbiotic coffee community. A traditional lunch was prepared for you and is served at the lovely Hacienda La Esperanza terrace. Afterward, you will learn about the processes of coffee production from cultivation to coffee drinking and experience yourself flavors, textures and colors of Costa Rican coffee beans.
After this true close-up activity into Costa Rica’s rural areas, you return to the capital by vehicle, towards the end of the afternoon.
