Gold Museum
The Gold Museum is situated below the Plaza de la Cultura (behind the National Theater) and contains an impressive collection of pre-Columbian golden works of art, ceramic works, and stonemasonry which will give you a good insight into the history and culture of Costa Rica's indigenous people.
Opening hours: daily, 9.15am - 5pm (Entry is possible until 4.30pm / every 1st Wednesday: 11am - 5pm)

Jade Museum
The Museo del Jade y Arte Precolombino is located in the Plaza de la Democracia in the centre of San José and also displays, besides pre-Columbian jade works, works of art made from stone and ceramic of this era. There are 7'000 exhibits that are shown in modern exhibit spaces.
Opening hours: daily, 8am - 5pm
Rates: 16 USD (kids under 5 years are free of charge)

National Museum
The National Museum, which is situated in the formerly military garrison Buena Vista in the Plaza de la Democracia, will surely provide the most extensive collection of artefacts and information about the past of contemporary history of Costa Rica.
Opening hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 8.30am - 4.30pm / Sunday, 9am - 4.30pm / Monday, closed
